Donal Walsh loved and lived his short life to the full. The Creative Media Department IT Tralee in collaboration with the Donal Walsh Live Life Foundation is ran a national film competition to help spread Donal’s wise words of “ Live Life” Our second year students planned, acted, filmed, edited and produced a short production for this competition. They had great fun along the way and thoroughly enjoyed the celebratory ‘Live Life’ day which centred on Donal’s message in Fels Point Tralee where the films were screened. Although we didn’t take home the trophy this year, the students really enjoyed the experience and we look forward to entering again next year.
Listowel Community College 40
Causeway Comprehensive 12
Listowel had a massive win over Causeway Comprehensive school on Thursday 12th February in Listowel Community Centre.
Listowel started brightly, with Killian Fealy, John Fokseang and Diarmaid McDonnell to the fore in the opening quarter. This, combined with the industry of Killian O’ Gorman and Stephen McCarthy, helped us claim a commanding lead in the opening quarter.
Lee Sloane, Patrick Dooley and Matthew Mahony continued the good work in the second quarter. Causeway pressed hard, but good defensive work from Michael Falvey, Chris Nyhill and Conor Mahony helped stop their progress.
Listowel really stepped up the ante in the third quarter, with the two Killians, Diarmaid and John shooting the lights out.
The fourth quarter saw a fine display of game management from Matthew Mahony and Michael Falvey, in particular.
MVP goes again to Diarmaid McDonnell, who scored a massive 20 points.
Scorers: Diarmaid McDonnell 20, John Fokseang 6, Killian Fealy 6, Killian O’ Gorman 6 and Michael Falvey 2.
Special mention to Ciaran O’ Connor and Killian Downey, who did excellent jobs score keeping and time keeping.
Congratulations to our third year student, Mark Fealey who won a prize for his metalwork project at the Tralee IT engineering day.
Congratulations to Valerie O’Connor and Emma Ryan who both received €500 each from Listowel Community College of Further Education as part of their Bursary Award. Students had the exciting opportunity to work with Irish film director, Éanna de Buis today. They created a set, designed costumes and organised props in English class and shot a short film under his direction today in conjunction with their media studies. It was an absolutely brilliant day as well as an interesting insight into the film industry. Keep an eye out for the finished product on the website soon!
The 27th January marked 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp at the end of World War 2. In English class Willow have been learning about the Holocaust and studying poetry relating to it. They also learned about the story of Anne Frank who died in the Holocaust. To mark Holocaust Memorial Day we went to visit Ireland’s only Holocaust memorial in the Garden of Europe, only a short walk from the school.
